SESSION 1 (APRIL 13, 2022): A Crushing Weight: The True Toll of Medical Debt on Mental, Physical and Economic Health for People and Communities 

By the end of Session I, CJA participants will: 1) be familiar with the broad outline of the new collaborative between RIP Medical Debt and CJA to address medical debt; 2) understand the scope and impact of medical debt on the economic, physical and mental health of many in their communities; 3) share their own observations about medical debt in the communities they serve and begin to generate ideas for ways they do or can aid in countering it locally/regionally.  (90 minutes).

SESSION 2 (APRIL 27, 2022): Making a Way Out: What Local Communities Can Do to End Medical Debt in their Backyards. 

By the end of this session, CJA participants will 1) have access to concrete approaches health care institutions can take today to decrease medical debt for their patients; 2) understand where public policy and advocacy campaigns have succeeded in broader systemic changes to alleviate or prevent medical debt; 3) shared observations and ideas for ways CJA members could be instrumental in implementing these locally.  (90 minutes).

SESSION 3 (May 11, 2022): Building a Medical Debt-Free Future: Funding Opportunity for CJA Members. 

By the end of this session, CJA participants will 1) understand [and provide initial feedback on] RIPMD’s Theory of Change for this pilot initiative; 2) know the key elements and dates for the funding opportunity RIPMD and CJA are jointly proposing to relieve and address medical debt at the local level; 3) have the clarity they need to be able to share the opportunity with internal and external partners as they decide whether to pursue an application. (90 minutes).
