Vernora McCants has worked for Community Action Akron Summit since August 2000. Currently she holds the position as Referral Coordinator for the Pathways HUB Community Action in Summit County, Ohio. In this position, she is able to connect pregnant women with Community Health Workers that are employed by numerous partners in Summit County. Vernora also holds a certification as a Community Health Worker from the Board of Nursing in the State of Ohio.
Vernora was previously Family Support Specialist with the Head Start program operated by Community Action Akron Summit. She held this position for almost 17 years before taking her new position at the HUB. As a Family Support Specialist, she stood firm on the mission of Community Action which is to reduce poverty and promote self-sufficiency. She credits her involvement with Head Start as a major stepping stone into opening many doors for her. She was a Head Start parent and served on various committees and boards; even serving as Policy Council Chairperson. She holds a deep passion for Head Start and still is a strong advocate for the Head Start families. She has served for many years on the annual Head Start Self-Assessment as a reviewer.
Vernora obtained her Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from Union College, Barbourville, Kentucky.
She will be celebrating 30 years of marriage to her husband Sam in July of this year, together they have 2 daughters, Meghan and Jalynn. She loves to travel and is an avid sports fans showing her support for her favorite college football team, The Ohio State Buckeyes and her favorite college basketball team, The Kentucky Wildcats.
